In early 2002 the WC took 100 second-hand Southern bulkhead flats and converted them into 50 articulated pulpwood flat cars, so naming them Mega Log Haulers. These cars are 120' long and have a load limit of 308,000 lbs. They ride on 4 standard trucks and are connected by a permanent drawbar.
The Mega Log Haulers are semi-captive within the Northern Wisconsin part of the former WC territory and whether loaded or empty seem to travel through Stevens Point WI. At times Fifield WI is also a major loading point for these cars.
Originally the Mega Log Haulers wore WCCL reporting marks and within a few years the CL was removed and the cars were identified only with the alpha WC. A few of the cars still show remnants of the WCCL reporting mark.
There are a few very minor differences in the first few numbered cars. The WC 35200 had the bulkheads moved inward away from the ends of the car, also its pulpwood stakes also are not connected by a bar. The 35200-35202 also share the difference that they do not have the V-shaped bark-catcher plates on the floor where the units meet. The 35200-35202 also have a chain connects the two units at the top of the pulpwood stakes.
