| A visual and audio essay about the Wisconsin Central SD45's. It is now early 2006 and a few can still be found in service on the Canadian National, but their days are numbered. I grew up living a few hundred feet from the Wisconsin Central Shawano Sub and heard the SD45's everyday. In the 1990's it was not uncommon to see a solid lashup of 2,3, and even 4 SD45's. At the end of 2001, the Wisconsin Central had 110 on the roster. The roster also included 1 SDP45, 6 F45's, and 1 FP45. To this railfan, the noise put out by the SD45 is very close to that of the still popular SD40-2, but at the upper notches under load, I think the 20 cylinder engine has a deeper heart beat, which brings back many memories. The photos here reflect the WC SD45's in the late 1990's till 2006. The pages are setup as large thumbnail pages, click on any photo to see a larger version. |
